Yellow Eyed Penguins (Also known as hoiho or tarakaka) nesting in harakeke flax plants.
The yellow-eyed penguin are endemic to New Zealand and are considered one of the rarest penguin species in the world. Unfortunately they are now listed on the endangered species list. They breed along the eastern and south-eastern coastlines of the South Island of New Zealand and love to make their nest in the native flax (harakeke) plants.
